Some netizens and Facebook groups are rejoicing over the idea that the impeachment complaint against Vice President Leni Robredo has been filed. This is what the headline “Sa Wakas Kasado Na Ang Inihaing Impeachment Complaint Laban Kay VP Leni Robredo!”

It was shared by Facebook pages such as “Kuya Erwin Tol,” which earned 1,200 shares, “Pres. Rody Duterte Worldwide Supporters,” “Duterte News Media,” “Duterte-Marcos Loyalist,” “Todayinmanila Ph,” and “Marcos Warriors,” among others.

The headline was carried by blogs such as newsmediaph.com, pinoybalita.net, du30newsglobal.com, and more. When you click on any of these blogs’ links, you will find a YouTube video that is almost 17 minutes long, showing some parts of the press conference of lawyer Bruce Rivera, one of the members of the Impeach Leni Movement.
Rivera told the media about furnishing a certain lawmaker’s office with a copy of their impeachment complaint against Robredo. During the press conference, he said that the lawmaker might already be filing the complaint.

After giving a few details as to their group’s reasons for filing the impeachment complaint against Robredo, Rivera told the reporters: “So with that alone, we actually filed the impeachment and it is with the congressman who you will know in the future.”
A reporter asked, “Di pa ngayon?” and Rivera responded by saying, “Baka ngayon pina-file na niya. Hindi natin alam kasi we left everything to his office. We signed everything, left it to him, or her.”
Rivera later admitted that his group was actually relying on a male lawmaker’s endorsement of their impeachment complaint against the Vice President.
On May 1, the Impeach Leni Movement’s FB page posted a photo of Rivera and the other complainants, saying that they will file the complaint versus Robredo on May 2 at 1pm.
However, the group’s plan to officially file the complaint was marred with the confusion caused by the denial of one lawmaker about his links to the Impeach Leni Movement. PBA Party-list Rep. Jericho Nograles said that he doesn’t even know lawyers Rivera and another complainant, lawyer Trixie Cruz-Angeles, who dropped the complaint documents by his office on May 2. Both parties later chalked the incident to a simple “miscommunication,” with Nograles emphasizing that he really had “no prior knowledge about this complaint.”
Most of the Facebook pages that posted the misleading title bore this caption: “Sa wakas, ito na mga ka BBM/DDS!! Ang pinakahihintay nating impeachment complaint laban kay VP Leni pormal nang inihain.. Susuporta ba kayo sa impeachment complaint na ito mga kababayan? Share if you do”
The misleading headline and the celebratory caption might have been done with the assumption that at least one lawmaker would readily endorse the impeachment complaint against Robredo. However, not one lawmaker showed up on May 2.
On May 4, the Office of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez confirmed that it has received the impeachment complaint against Robredo. However, no member of Congress has made the move to endorse the complaint.
The 1987 Philippine Constitution Any Filipino citizen can initiate an impeachment against a public official, but it will only be officially filed at the House of Representatives if a lawmaker endorses the document of the complaint.
As of the morning of May 5, no lawmaker from Congress has come forward to endorse the impeachment complaint against the VP. This means no formal complaint has been officially filed against Robredo, which further meant that the title used by several Duterte and Marcos support pages on Facebook is clearly misleading.
Marcos loyalists, lawyer Oliver Lozano and radio broadcaster Melchor Chavez, also filed an impeachment complaint against Robredo in March, but their complaint encountered the same problem of not getting an endorsement from a House member. Technically, there is no impeachment complaint filed against the Vice President yet.
