In his privilege speech on Monday, September 26, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV fact-checked the testimonies of self-confessed Davao Death Squad member Edgar Matobato. While admitting the fact that Matobato did make several inconsistent statements, he considered those as trivial inconsistencies. He attributed these to Matobato finishing only Grade 1, not being fluent in speaking Filipino, and being 57 years old with a faltering memory.
He also showed corroborating facts to prove that Matobato’s claims were true.
1. Matobato claimed that he worked for the Davao City Government until 2013.
His service card showed that he was assigned to the city mayor’s office (CMO). It also showed that he started working for the CMO in 1990.
Matobato’s ID showed that incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte signed it because she also served as the mayor from 2010-2013.
Matobato’s employment is categorized as job order. The payroll was dated July 1, 2013.
