President Rodrigo Duterte allegedly rejected the intention of Vice President Leni Robredo to replace Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo.

The article was published by pinoyobserver.com, which started out as a satirical site. Its disclaimer has changed once again, but despite its earlier claim of publishing satirical articles, this did not stop netizens from sharing the story over 4,000 times, while believing it to be true.

According to the story, Robredo showed her interest in the DSWD chief post after Taguiwalo was rejected by what Pinoy Observer wrote as “COA” when it’s supposed to be CA or Commission on Appointments. Despite Robredo’s intent, Dutrete allegedly said that she is not equipped to handle the post and the responsibilities that come with it.

Duterte was quoted saying this to the media on August 18, ““I don’t see her capable enough to handle the agency. Yong housing nga hindi na naayos e itong DSWD pa kaya. Itong si Lenoi pag nangarap kala mo kaya.”

He further added, “Yong gusto kong ilagay dyan ay yong may kaya at tapat sa mga tao. Hindi plastic.”

It was also noted how Communications Asec. Mocha Uson started a Twitter poll for the next DSWD chief and Robredo emerged as the winner.

However, we could not find other reports that carried the two statements that Duterte allegedly said about Robredo and the potential replacement for Taguiwalo.

Duterte has not directly said anything about Robredo and the next DSWD chief. Instead, it was Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella who commented on the result of Uson’s Twitter poll and he said Robredo would be a “difficult choice” as a Social Welfare secretary.

“Perhaps, there might be conditionalities that may not be too favorable regarding that. I don’t know. It all depends on the President,” Abella said on August 17 during a Malacañang press briefing.

“I mean, I’m not saying no for Leni. I’m just saying that it seems to be a difficult choice,” he added.

On August 19, it was reported that Duterte named Undersecretary Emmanuel Leyco as the officer-in-charge of the DSWD.

This story from Pinoy Observer turned out to be one of their satirical pieces. Their new About Us page said that they decided to publish real reports starting August 22, 2017.

Since the article about Duterte rejecting Robredo’s intent on becoming the next DSWD chief was published on August 19, it is still one of the website’s satirical pieces, which was why it had fake statements from Duterte. The story should not be taken seriously at all.
