Duterte eyes to issue mandate preventing drug users from roaming streets: Stay home or I will kill you

Before this month ends, President Rodrigo Duterte said he will submit to the National Security Council the validated list of those involved in drugs. He will also give a copy to the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives; but before this, the President issued a new warning to drug users.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s speech at the San Beda Law alumni homecoming held at Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, he stated, “In the coming days, I will make it a must – a mandate – na lahat kayong natamaan ng droga, huwag kayong lumabas ng bahay. Wala man akong presuhan, pumasok kayo sa bahay ninyo, mag-lock kayo. Pagkalumabas kayo p*i*, papatayin ko kayo.”

Duterte added, “Believe me, until the last pusher is out of the streets and the last drug lord is exterminated, it will last until the last day of my term.”

This statement was made after the President made a computation regarding the enormous scale of illegal drugs in the Philippines. With an estimate of P200 per day that three million addicts expend on drugs, the industry accumulates at least P216 billion a year according to his computation.

“Where do they get P200 to sustain their [addiction]? They rob, they kill, hold-up dito sa Manila. Medyo ngayon wala na, but that’s only… for the moment lang ‘yan, takot kasi eh. Wala na ang mga istambay… How do we make it permanent?” Duterte asks.

On Sunday, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella communicated to GMA News Online, “PRRD is reiterating the gravity of being involved in drugs, and warns of serious repercussions.”

Abella adds, “The details will have to be worked out,” such as issuing a curfew on individuals suspected of drug involvement.

In his speech, Duterte also insisted that drugs is the most serious problem in the country, “Droga ang pinaka because it would leave us in its wake so many insane persons.”

Duterte’s campaign promise was to put an end to the crime and drug problem in a span of six months to which he discloses, “So noong nanalo ako, I named already known personalities. But to my horror, after the so many names that I mentioned, the final report of the PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency), from all sources collated, from the National Intelligence Community, NBI, lahat. Binigyan ako ng kopya ganun kakapal, sabi ko medyo problema ito… Tinawagan ko ang Cabinet sabi ko hindi ko ito kaya.”

The President adds, “And even if assuming na sinasabi nila na pinapatay ko, sinasabi ko sa kanila I will run out of time and bullets because of this report.”

In the same speech, faced with the heavy burden of being President, Duterte said he was not happy being President and that he regrets “to a certain extent.”
