Several Facebook pages shared articles about how “Atty. Acosta” was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte, along with photos of the seal of the Supreme Court and Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Rueda-Acosta.

The said story was shared by “PRRD – the Greatest,” whose post has since gained over 900 shares and other Facebook fan pages, such as “Todayinmanila Ph,” “Pinoy Tribune,” and “President Duterte 2016.”

But when we clicked on one of the links that was shared by these fan pages, we found a YouTube video composed of a part of a PTV news report about Duterte’s appointment of Judge Louis Acosta to the Court of Appeals on March 2. He definitely is not the PAO chief, as what was shown in the photos circulated by the Facebook fan pages.

The rest of the YouTube video was made up of the clips of PAO chief Acosta’s exchange with Senator Leila De Lima about Acosta’s alleged involvement in preparing the testimonies of Bilibid inmates and Acosta’s interview for her application for Supreme Court associate justice with the Judicial Bar Council (JBC).
It turns out the YouTube video was published by Favradio FM, which has a blog that publishes fake news, some of which we have busted already.
We also found several news reports about Taguig Regional Trial Court Judge Louis P. Acosta’s recent appointment to the post previously filled by Associate Justice Agnes Reyes-Carpio, who retired last December 1, 2016. She is also the mother-in-law of Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte.
The newly appointed Acosta is noted as the younger brother of CA Associate Justice Francisco Acosta, Duterte’s fraternity brother.
Unfortunately, many of the netizens seemed to have failed to click through to the link of the article they are sharing or commenting on. Otherwise, they would have immediately known that the Acosta who was recently appointed by Duterte was not the PAO chief but an RTC judge with the same surname. Their comments showed just how easily they were fooled by the wrong photo used by the Facebook fan pages.
