The articles from philippinesreport.com and philnews.ph have used a misleading title that has been shared thousands of times on social media.

What’s true is that December 8 is not yet a holiday. The House of Representatives approved House Bill 5241 bill seeking to declare December 8 as a special non-working holiday to celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. But it still needs to be approved by the Senate and signed by President Rodrigo Duterte into law.

The Facebook page of the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) already clarified misleading reports about December 8 as a holiday.

Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas authored HB 5241. If approved, it will be added to the Philippine holidays that involve Catholic religious events.

According to Fariñas, the Immaculate Conception is one of the most popular titles for Mary that is venerated by the Catholic Church in the country.
