Busted: De Lima holding a concert in Bilibid? Nope, she was singing for Hustisya Volunteers last May

A video clip of Senator Leila de Lima singing “Careless Whisper” has been circulating online, with some Facebook pages alleging it as a concert at the New Bilibid Prison.

This Facebook fan page called Duterte and Bato Supporters was particularly harsh in slamming the senator, accusing her of being a drug lord protector once more. They even urged fellow DDS (Die-hard Duterte Supporters) to share the video so de Lima will finally go to jail.

Here’s the video clip they thought were of de Lima performing in Bilibid:

The comments were even harsher, calling her names and predicting that she would deny this video once more.

And yes, the senator would have a valid reason for denying that the video was in Bilibid because it wasn’t taken there in the first place and she was not performing in front of inmates.

The original video was actually uploaded by a de Lima supporter.

She captioned the video, “Congrats Sen. LEILA DE LIMA! Careless Whisper Sung by SEN. LEILA DE LIMA… Supported by AND KNK. May 13, 2016”

If you freeze the video at one point, the tarpaulin behind the band comes to a clear view.

It says, “WE LOVE YOU TOO! FROM: HUSTISYA VOLUNTEERS.”

This is because the video was for the send-off party of de Lima’s supporters during the campaign period. She was definitely not singing to the drug lords and inmates, but to her volunteers.

If the video was not clear enough, the same supporter also uploaded stills of de Lima’s victory party – a boodle fight.

And here’s the clearer photo of the poster of the volunteers’ message to de Lima.

De Lima has been targeted left and right by President Rodrigo Duterte himself and his supporters. This video is just one of the attacks launched against the senator – using an otherwise fun video and putting an evil twist to it by putting the wrong caption and a lot of insinuations.

But this is not even the first time de Lima’s love for singing was used against her. She was earlier accused of singing in Bilibid in front of drug lord Herbert Colangco. It turned out she was singing at her 56^th birthday party. The guest who many of her haters accused to be Colangco was actually actor and now Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas.
