The Catholic Church has once again become the subject of fake news when online articles surfaced about how assorted adult toys and abortion pills were allegedly found at an old convent for nuns in Bulacan.

The articles were published by various blogs, but pinoyobserver.com was likely the most familiar website that carried the story, considering how it has published fake stories about the Church that we’ve busted.

It was also translated into Filipino by another website, globalnews.favradio.fm, that has shared fake stories before. When it was posted to the website’s Facebook page, Favradio, the story has since been shared over 600 times.

Someone shared the story to the Facebook group (v/f)DDS/ DIEHARD DUTERTE SUPPORTERS, where its members shared the story over 1,000 times. It was also shared by the page DuterteFever by Lotti.

The other blogs’ pages covering the story have been taken down, except for this one on pilipinastrendnews.blogspot.com, where we learned more about the made-up claims.

Construction workers allegedly found the collection of adult toys, condoms, and expired abortion pills at an old convent in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, where nuns used to live. The items were estimated to have been collected since the 1960’s to the 1990’s, based on their brands and designs. The workers also found BDSM items during the convent’s repair.

The story even provided a short history of the said convent, about how it was used as a school for Catholic nuns from 1951 to 2010. It stopped operating in 2010 and was only repaired this year, 2017.

It added that the diocese of Bulacan has not given its official statement on the issue.

We tried searching for other sources, aside from the blogs, that may have reported about this “scandal” at a convent in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, but found no credible sources. Such scandalous story would have found its way to the mainstream media.

Aside from not having credible sources, the fact that one of the blogs that published this story is the notorious Pinoy Observer, which is currently unavailable, is enough reason to doubt its claims. Pinoy Observer has published some of the recent viral fake stories about the Catholic Church, particularly the CBCP.
