Articles circulating on Facebook these past few days claimed that former President Benigno Aquino III died in a California hospital.
One Facebook user shared the article to the Duterte fan page “President Rody Duterte Facebook Army,” with a caption saying how she wished the hoax is true for she would celebrate his death along with the other Filipinos who are angry at him.

We found the article to have been picked up by websites tv-cnn.com and tv-bbc.com, among other blogs.
The articles from both blogs have even gained hundreds to thousands of shares.
Although published by different blogs, both sites bore the same copy of the story.

According to the story, Aquino’s family announced his death at a California Hospital, later revealed as the Bakersfield Heart Hospital, in the US, where he was getting treated. It also claimed that Aquino flew to the US secretly after fighting an undisclosed illness. The story also speculated that the former Philippine president died from a heart-related disease.
However, both websites turned out to be fake news sites, which published hoaxes such as Abu Sayyaf begging Duterte to forgive and forget, Duterte thanking Henry Sy for the private jet gift, Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla dying, Duterte honored as anti-terrorism ambassador, the ICC issuing a warrant of arrest against Duterte, Trump threatening to deport De Lima from the US, and more.

Moreover, journalists who covered De Lima’s arrest on February 24 tweeted about how Aquino talked to De Lima before she came out of her senate office to face the CIDG arresting team.

Former President Aquino is very much alive and updated with the latest happenings in Philippine politics. He’s not dead, as this hoax has claimed.
