Microsoft founder Bill Gates has allegedly arrived in in Manila a few days ago and was welcomed by government officials, claimed an article published by several blogs and shared by Duterte fan pages.
The story has been shared thousands of times on Facebook, with netizens commenting how this is “good news.” It claimed that despite the government’s drug war that was feared to scare investors away, it instead brought them in as they considered the Philippines to be safer than before.

The article also claimed that Gates was at first scared to invest, but Duterte’s drug war has ensured him that the Philippines is already safe after the president did away with drug lords and pushers.
However, we already busted this article before. It’s just that they made a few changes to the fake article from before by adding Gates’ arrival in the country this January 2017 and the government officials welcoming him. Gates did visit the Philippines with his wife, Melinda, in April 2015, and even spent a summer vacation in Palawan. They also visited the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) during that visit, considering how the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) is the institute’s biggest philanthropic donor.

To be clear, Gates has not made a $20-billion investment under Duterte’s administration. No reports have come up about him visiting the country recently.
Moreover, when we clicked on the source cited by one of the blogs shared by the Duterte fan pages, we found out that it was another fake news site, philstar.i-telecast.com.
But as usual, these Duterte fan pages did not even make the effort to verify just how true the articles they’re sharing are. The same thing goes with the blogs like dutertemedia.com and newstitans.com that picked up these fake stories.
The fake article that “Duterte News Global” shared even gained 4,265 shares.
