Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan remarked that Janet Lim Napoles’ acquittal in the illegal detention case filed against her by Benhur Luy is a bad sign that the Supreme Court may have found Luy an unreliable witness.

Pangilinan wrote.
Pangilinan also slammed the fact that Solicitor General Jose Calida came to Napoles’ defense saying that she was mistakenly sentenced with a guilty verdict.

The senator said that the P10 billion worth of pork barrel funds that were spent on Napoles’ fake non-government organizations could have been used by the Filipino farmers.
Pangilinan said.
#Napoles even trended on Twitter with the Court of Appeals’ decision.

For his part, Calida said that justice prevailed as the Court of Appeals acquitted Napoles in her illegal detention of Luy.
“I commend the magistrates of the 12th Division of the Court of Appeals for doing what is right based on the evidence before them,” Calida said.
Calida added that the Office of the Solicitor General has recommended the acquittal of other accused individuals in appealed criminal cases due to lack of evidence.
“Some sectors make a big deal out of this case because it involves Janet Lim Napoles. However, as the principal lawyer of the Republic, this is just a simple criminal case wherein the evidence does not support the conviction of the accused,” Calida said.
