Two blogs have posted articles about an alleged announcement of the United States Army that they would soon be accepting application from Filipinos who wants to be a part of the military. It turned out both blogs contain the same exact story.

According to the article, while the U.S. Army only recruited residents and citizens of the United States in the past, it is now supposedly considering international recruitment.
The article also claimed that it is opened for people from ages 21 to 35 years old and the recruitment will be done yearly starting 2017 and would assure U.S. permanent residency.

Contrary to what the article claimed, Meme Buster found out that the U.S. Army did not make any announcement about international recruitment, particularly for Filipinos.
The United States does have a program called Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest (MAVNI), which is a recruitment program for legal non-citizens of the United States who have the skills to join the army.
This program has been launched in 2008 and was extended until 2016. There has been rumors that the program will be extended until 2017 but there has been no official news.
Moreover, this program is only open for immigrants who are 17 to 34 years old and have been legally residing in the United States for two years. In exchange for enlisting to the US army, the immigrant’s U.S. citizenship will be expedited.

When asked whether the MAVNI will still continue this 2017, the Commanding General of the United States Army Recruiting Comman, Major General Snow answered:
“So I start by saying as you know, the MAVNI Program is suspended now we’ve hit our 5000 allocations for FY 16 and it was a pilot program that expired in 2016. So we while we believe it may open in fiscal year 17, what I would like to share with you is that we just had the DOD IG office, up in the G3 asking some questions regarding the processes (how MAVNIs are processed). For security reasons, that investigation isn’t due to be completed until May of 2017. So I wouldn’t anticipate it being open anytime before then.”
