Trump slams Obama’s foreign policy, Duterte’s ‘lack of respect’ for US

On Tuesday, October 25, US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump placed the blame on President Barack Obama on the weakening relations of the US with the Philippines, particularly with its ruling president, Rodrigo Duterte.

Trump criticized President Obama by stating that he “wants to focus on his golf game” instead of engaging discussions and maintaining diplomatic relations with world leaders.

Ever since Duterte’s assuming of office, he had gone on numerous tirades against the United States, which displayed his hostility against the nation. He rejected criticism on his deadly war on crime and drugs, using obscenities towards Obama and advising the US to stop treating the Philippines as a country which is “like a dog with a leash.”

However, Trump goes on to add that Duterte’s recent remarks exhibited “a lack of respect for our [US] country.”

“He [Duterte] probably made a deal with China. Because he left for China and he’s dealing with China and Russia so he probably made a deal with China and Russia,” Trump reacts regarding Duterte’s speeches against the presence of foreign troops in the Philippines.

Trump further remarks that “The Philippines are a very important strategic location. He has no respect or liking of Obama…” and “I think it’s a horrible thing that the United States is reduced to being thrown out of a country.”
